February – Carnaval
Carnaval in Brazil is said to be “the greatest show on Earth” attracting over 5 million people from around the world. The five day event is filled with samba music, colourful costumes and giant parades.
March – Holi
Although Holi is celebrated around the world, the biggest celebratory event takes place in India. Thousands of people fill the streets to celebrate the festival of colours by throwing coloured powder and paint on each other.
April – May – Amsterdam Tulip Festival
Experience the beauty of these elegant flowers in the tulip capital of the world. Each year they host one of the most well-renowned festivals at the Keukenhof Botanical Garden which is home to over 7 million flower bulbs!
June – San Vino Wine Fight
Every year thousands of people from around the world flock to Haro, Spain to soak each other in red wine. Yes, you read that right… at the end of this festival, you will be stained with wine from head to toe! Known as La Batalla de Vino de Haro by locals, festival goers embrace the celebrations with deluxe camping, chef prepared meals, and of course, an open bar.
July – Calgary Stampede
Get your cowboy boots on and mosey on over to the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada. It is a nine day festival jam-packed with rodeos, concerts, western-themed shows, plenty of food, and a fair.
August – La Tomatina
Every year festival-goers from around the world gather in the streets of Buñol, Spain to throw tomatoes at each other. Why? Because it’s fun. La Tomatina has no deeper meaning – just throw some tomatoes!
September – October – Oktoberfest
If you love beer, this is a festival you have to experience at least once in your life! With over six million people in attendance yearly, Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksvest. While it may be targeted at people of legal drinking age, there are activities for the whole family to enjoy.
October – Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
For nine days in October, over one million people gather to see 500+ hot air balloons fill the sky of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Pilots and entertainers from across the globe take part in hot air balloon competitions, live entertainment, a night-time balloon glow and chainsaw carvings.
November – Loi Krathong & Yi Peng Festival
These are two of the most picturesque festivals in the world. The former releases lanterns into the sky while the latter releases candles into the water. Whichever festival of light you choose to attend, you are sure to take breathtaking photographs!
December – New Years Eve
